VitalSmarts Honors HCA for Its Contribution to Changing Human Behavior

Provo, Utah – August 15, 2016 – VitalSmarts, one of the world’s top leadership development companies, today announced that it awarded Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) the prestigious Albert Bandura Influencer Award at the annual REACH event which took place August 9 – 11 in Salt Lake City, UT.

The Albert Bandura Influencer Award is named for the world-renowned psychologist and his extraordinary contribution to the field of self-directed human change. It recognizes organizations, leaders, and scholars who have advanced both scholarship and practice in enabling self-directed human change. The award was founded under the premise that human behavior is a direct cause behind the world’s most pervasive and significant challenges. As a result, the health, peace and prosperity of humanity hinges on organizations and individuals learning the science behind changing human behavior.

HCA provides its leaders and employees with opportunities to learn how they can change their behavior, and the behavior of others. HCA’s Research Medical Center used Influencer Training to achieve a significant increase in personal responsibility scores among members of the Transplant Institute. As a result, referral rates rose and satisfaction scores climbed 3 percent in less than one year, a major shift in the healthcare industry.

“HCA’s Research Medical Center is a prime example of what happens when an organization invests in its leaders and employees to initiate change from within,” said Joseph Grenny, cofounder of VitalSmarts. “We are thrilled to recognize the work HCA is doing to influence change that not only impacts its staff but also the patients they serve every day.”

“We are honored to receive the Albert Bandura Influencer Award,” said Katrina Greene, Director of Organizational Development at HCA’s MidAmerica division. “We are committed to the care and improvement of human life, and to achieve our mission, we continually train and develop our employees to embrace our culture, grow the business and lead the industry through the efforts of the HCA Leadership Institute. The Albert Bandura Award aligns with our mission and allows us to celebrate the great work of our leaders and employees to care for our patients.”

Since 2010, VitalSmarts has recognized outstanding influencers through the Albert Bandura Influencer Award, including Dr. Mimi Silbert, founder of the Delancey Street Institute whose work has changed the lives of 18,000 hardened criminals; David Levin, cofounder of the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) who has helped 20,000 at-risk youth to graduate high school; and The Carter Center, which has nearly eradicated Guinea Worm Disease from the face of the earth.
