REACH '09 Recap:
There was a moment, about 75 minutes into the first day of REACH 09, when I saw my professional life flash before me and come to a crashing halt. The moment was when the actor Michael Birkeland (famous for stealing scrubs in Crucial Confrontations and for having a sudden change of heart in Crucial Conversations) strode up on stage during Kerry Patterson’s keynote and began unbuttoning his shirt. And then he untucked it. And then he took it completely off. Thankfully, Michael had a T-shirt on underneath, but Kerry had just made a joke about naked men on stage and I was convinced the joke had been prophecy. Standing at the back of an auditorium full of more than 200 of our incredible certified trainers, master trainers, and other partners… it was not a good moment for me.
Thankfully, Michael disrobed no further and instead, with Kerry and the actor Bruce Newbold, delivered a fabulous keynote session, one that was entertaining, engaging, and informative. That opening keynote session truly set the stage for the wonderful 2-day conference we had at the beautiful Grand America in Salt Lake City, UT.
For those of you who came, thank you for making REACH everything that it was! And, for those of you who didn’t make it this year, we look forward to seeing you next year at REACH.
