Media Relations Specialist

VitalSmarts, an innovator in corporate training and organizational performance, is seeking an experienced, full-time media relations specialist who will work closely with the Corporate Communications Manager to:

  • Publicize the company’s line of bestselling books, training, authors, and research to local, national and international media outlets.
  • Create and executive on a global media relations strategy.

Qualified applicants will possess experience, excellent organizational skills, be detail oriented, a self starter, and have passion, enthusiasm and excellence in their work.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelors Degree required
  • 2 years of experience in public relations or internship equivalent beyond degree

Qualifications

  • 2 years of full time experience in public relations, or internship equivalent, is required beyond degree. Agency experience or corporate PR experience preferred.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, including editing capabilities, and phone pitching experience.
  • Technically savvy and basic HTML skills or a desire to learn HTML.
  • Highly organized and ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects and people internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated track record in pitching and placing stories.
  • Top candidates will be strategic, creative thinkers who are self-starters, have impeccable attention to detail, and who can work collaboratively.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Duties/Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of media relations specialist will include, but are not limited to:

  • Publicize/pitch the company’s line of bestselling books, trainings, authors, and research to local, national and international media outlets
  • Create and execute a global media relations strategy that corresponds with the overall corporate strategy
  • Manage global media promotion associated with the launch of company’s new books, products, and research
  • Write and edit material for media pitches, corporate press releases, and media advisories
  • Monitor news and proactively pitch topics of the day by tracking trends and developing timely news hooks
  • Work closely with the company’s cofounders and authors to brainstorm media ideas, gather relevant content for press releases, secure media interviews, and place contributed articles
  • Coach company spokes people, authors, and experts to correctly deliver corporate messaging
  • Work with marketing and product development to create integrated media campaigns that promote viral videos, research campaigns, and other viral projects
  • Maintain press lists, distribute news, and generate reports through Vocus (or system equivalent)
  • Help write and submit company awards
  • Assist in writing and policing corporate brand and product messaging
  • Manage online news room and RSS news feed
  • Generate monthly media impressions reports
  • Pitch ProfNet and other time-sensitive press opportunities on a daily basis
  • Be a valuable contributor to the marketing team
  • Fulfill other responsibilities and projects under the direction of the Corporate Communication Manager
